Father's Day has been many things in my 28 years. It's been a day to celebrate my dad with him, when my sisters and I smothered him with handmade goodies and extra hugs. The first Father's Day without him in 2002 was painful. There's no pain like the reminder of loss. However, Father's Day, like many of the holidays we are left to celebrate without dad, evolved into days when we could all reflect on the awesome memories we have. Then, as I married Charlie and gained a father-in-law, it evolved yet again. Not only do I celebrate the incredible daddy I grew up with, I'm fortunate to also celebrate one hell of a father to the man I call my husband. I'm so thankful for these blessings!
And now, Father's Day has made yet another transition. From the moment we found out we were expecting, Charlie stepped into a role that we know will demand the most of him. He has already been the best husband and partner in all things...and now, we add fatherhood to that list. I am so excited to watch Charlie become the father he has set the groundwork to be.
Happy Father's Day Papa Mark, Papa Mango, and Charlie. It should go without saying that having you in my life had been one of the greatest gifts!
